Welcome to my fascination with leadership. It began many years ago with 10 years in management and executive roles. At that point, I think my primary goal was to stay on top of the demands, and somehow manage to be a credible leader. Then it was on to starting up a consulting firm that had me working with leaders and teams from regional, national and international organizations. Seventeen years later I had seen the leadership styles of dozens of leaders on a close-up and personal basis, and explored inside organizations ranging from small businesses to the United Nations.
Consulting was a fascinating way to observe the good, the bad and the ugly of leadership. And to my surprise, it prepared me to dive into leadership development and executive coaching. Coaching began to creep into my consulting practice back in the mid-90’s, and for the past six years it has been my professional obsession. It has also been a tremendous source of learning, and a great source of enjoyment and fun.
This blog is about sharing some of my discoveries and enjoyment, and if I can assist a few leaders to ease their leadership journeys and find satisfaction in one of life’s most important roles, I would be thrilled. I’m currently focusing the comments on three areas.

Bio
Ric Durrant lives and works in Calgary Canada, a one hour drive from the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
He is a Certified Executive Coach (Faculty of Management, Royal Roads University), and Professional Certified Coach (International Coach Federation). He is a Past President of the Calgary Association of Professional Coaches, and offers 30 years experience as a manager, senior executive, consultant and leadership coach. Since founding Chan Durrant in 1986, he has worked with many top tier corporations and mid-sized businesses, and all levels of government. He has also served many non-profit organizations, and currently donates his time as the leadership coach of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ric’s work focuses on:
1. Coaching vice presidents and above (the majority of his clients)
2. Coaching new or developing managers
3. Training/coaching for public speaking and presentation skills
4. Leadership skills training
Ric has a strong background in leadership, planning, change and communications. He is the author of the “Communicating Like a Leader” program, and holds a Master’s degree in applied psychology specializing in learning and development.
